Mr.D ( Dewayne) Im so sorry for your loss I know how hard it is to loose your parents ,I have lost both of mine but I know I will see them again one day just like will see your dad again they are all in a much better place .Love to you and your family.

I remember many things about Poppa. One of the first memories is how he would say Amen at some point during my solo at church. It would either be during the song or immediately after whether, it was a good performance or not. I remember going to the Mountains with him and visiting Cade's Cove for the first time. I remember every time I walked into his house he would give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek and say "Come on in!" He would often ask about my parents and my grandparents to see how they were doing. What I remember most of all is how devoted he was to my wonderful mother-in-law. He loved her more than anything in the world and treated her like gold. He was often a quiet man or a man of few words, but when he spoke, they were words worth listening to. I was fortunate enough to get to spend many hours at his bedside during his final days. I talked to him, I sang to him, I held his hand, and I said good-bye to him. I wouldn't trade any of those moments for anything in the world. Poppa, you will be missed by us all, but I know you are in heaven watching over us and waiting for the moment that we will all be together again. I love you!!! Jennifer Givens

I have fond memories of Daddy teaching me to drive. We would spend Saturday and Sunday afternoons practicing in the Sprayberry High School parking lot in his Chevrolet Impala. I remember how patient he was with me. His favorite line was, "It doesn't matter how well you drive, you still have to watch out for the other drivers". I specifically remember a time when he let me drive home on Sandy Plains Road when I was only 14. His only request was that I did not tell momma. Well, big mouth Dwayne couldn't wait to tell momma right when I got home.I really thought this would end my driving lessons for good. I should have known that Daddy wouldn't stay mad long. We were back driving the next weekend, but this did end my illegal runs down Sandy Plains Road. I always loved my Dad for teaching me to drive! Some say the lessons must not have been real good based on my driving skills, but I won't blame Daddy for that. I am really going to miss my Dad.
